Simple Custom WPSD remote setup

You need to do the following:

  1. Copy pistar-remote.wd5gnr to /usr/local/sbin/pistar-remote.wd5gnr AND /usr/local/sbin/pistar-remote.wd5gnr.backup (important!)
  2. Copy the files (remote-user-hook-example0, bm_tg.py, gnrcheck) for /usr/local/bin to your /usr/local/bin directory
  3. Edit (don't copy) your /etc/pistar-remote to look like the one below
  4. Copy and Edit /home/pi-star/user-hook-data to fit your needs
  5. Make all the files except user-hook-data executable (e.g., chmod +x gnrcheck)

Raspberry Pi Control Dashboard

Requirement: node-red-dashboard. Obviously you will need a Raspberry Pi too!

This is a simple but very useful dashboard to control a Raspberry Pi (similar to Cayenne dashboard for RPi), it includes so far:

  • CPU Temperature
  • CPU Load %
  • Free RAM %
  • Disk Usage %
  • Actions: Shutdown and Reboot buttons

Feel free to fork and and more stuff ;-)

How to reinstall Windows 8 on Samsung ATIV 500T and upgrade to Windows 10

How to reinstall Windows 8 on Samsung ATIV 500T and upgrade to Windows 10

I bought my Samsung ATIV 500T back in 2013 in Paris. It was preinstalled with Windows 8 Home. I soon upgraded it to Windows 8 Professional to be a part of the work domain. And later to Windows 8.1 and later to Windows 10.

I am still very happy with it and it's pen-OneNote combination is still bringing a lot of surprise to whoever is near.

Once I incidentally tryied to install SQL Express to it and it was very bad decision. I create a Windows Restore Point before so it was quite easy to roll back.

But few days ago I tried to do the factory Reset and ended up with unbootable device. There seems to be no "Boot from USB" so I have had to come with another idea.

How-to: Use a serial connection to your Netgear ReadyNAS

Taken from http://damsteen.nl/blog/how-to-use-a-serial-connection-to-your-netgear-readynas as it always seems to be down

How-to: Use a serial connection to your Netgear ReadyNAS

It is possible to connect to the command-line interface of your Netgear ReadyNAS using a serial connection. I have seen a very old blog post on the internet describing how to connect via serial to a Infrant ReadyNAS NV but it wasn't very clear how to connect to a Netgear ReadyNAS NVX Pioneer Edition, which I have. I guess I'm not the only one who wants to connect to their ReadyNAS, so I'm sharing my knowlegde here :)

The obvious advantages of a serial connection to your ReadyNAS is that you can experiment with network settings without the fear of rendering your NAS inaccessible. I believe it is also possible to recover the firmware in the event an update fails, although I haven't tried this myself.
