How to reinstall Windows 8 on Samsung ATIV 500T and upgrade to Windows 10

How to reinstall Windows 8 on Samsung ATIV 500T and upgrade to Windows 10

I bought my Samsung ATIV 500T back in 2013 in Paris. It was preinstalled with Windows 8 Home. I soon upgraded it to Windows 8 Professional to be a part of the work domain. And later to Windows 8.1 and later to Windows 10.

I am still very happy with it and it's pen-OneNote combination is still bringing a lot of surprise to whoever is near.

Once I incidentally tryied to install SQL Express to it and it was very bad decision. I create a Windows Restore Point before so it was quite easy to roll back.

But few days ago I tried to do the factory Reset and ended up with unbootable device. There seems to be no "Boot from USB" so I have had to come with another idea.

To keep it simple:

  1. prepare a USB stick with Windows 8 32-bit first (the original operating system for Samsung ATIV 500T)
  • turn 500T off
  • stick the USB in
  1. Hold Volume Up + Power
  2. Keep Volume Up hold until you see "Wait..."
  3. Note there is no "Use a Device", but you can go to "Advanced"
  4. Run "Start command prompt"
  5. find the USB stick (it was D: for me)
  6. run the Windows installer D:\setup.exe
  7. Install Windows 8
  8. Update your drivers (hope you saved them first when you bought your 500T)
  9. remove the USB stick
  10. put Windows 10 32-bit on the USB stick
  11. run upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 8
  12. enjoy

@AbdelrahmanGamee You need to use a FAT32 USB.
Connect a USB dongle and press F10 during boot.
Select the USB drive and it might get stuck, reboot it pressing the power button and repeat the F10 process. Now it will show a windows boot manager.
Select the new option and wait. You should be able to remove the USB.

f you still have access to windows 8 follow option 1, if not option two.

option 1:

On systems with Windows 8 pre-installed, you can access the UEFI (BIOS) setup screens from the Windows 8 boot menu:

1.Press the Windows (Image) key + C, or swipe in from the right edge of the screen to open your Charms.

2.Click Settings.

3.Click Change PC Settings.

4.In PC Settings, select General.

5.Under Advanced startup, click Restart now. The system will restart and show the Windows 8 boot menu.

6.In the boot menu, select Troubleshoot.

7.In the Troubleshoot menu, select Advanced options.

8.In the Advanced options menu, select UEFI Firmware Settings.

9.Click Restart to restart the system and enter UEFI (BIOS).

option 2:

You have to change this default method of booting by going into the BIOS setup. You do this by putting the thumb drive into the USB socket, Then by pressing the F2 key during the booting process. You will come to a screen where you see the heading Samsung BIOS Configuration. Below this there are several options on the left hand side.

1.Select " Advanced" and change the Fast BIOS Mode to OFF. This is a necessary condition for the system to boot from the USB.

2.Then select "Boot", and in that, change the Secure Boot to OFF

Hello, I just reinstalled the XE500T1C. You just go to Microsoft and download the required Windows 32Bits version. Make a bootable USB and insert it into the tablet. During boot press F10 untill screen pops up with the USB name select it and start.

Here you find all the drivers. Make sure you install all drivers because otherwise WiFi won't work and only show the adapter.

Good Luck!

Hi @promontathar, please make sure you download the original Windows 8 32 bit. Unfortunately, I do not use Windows anymore so I cannot help you here, sorry. Also please see my original post up here, I was also not able to boot from the USB. Could the steps I used (not using the bootable USB) help you?

Hey @davidpodhola thanks for the idea! I was able to fix my dead Ativ thanks to this trick. For whom needs the driver, here is the link I've used https://www.notebook-driver.com/samsung-xe500t1c-windows-drivers-software/
First install the chipset's driver, after that all the others!

After mount USB with Windows 8.1 (With Rufus and ISO image of windows 8.1) and run from recovery, with this i can run touchscreen and others with this archive. Thanks!

After that, i can run the wifi with this tool:

And now i think we can resolver the rest of problems with Samsung Update tool.

Great!

Hello friends.
A few days ago, a friend of mine brought me a Samsung notebook model xe500t1c to install a new Windows on it.
I do not know what error I entered in cmd that all data and even notebook drives and backup drives have been deleted.
Now the notebook is completely raw.
So that when it turns on, it goes to boot automatically immediately.
Unfortunately, everything I do is redirected to the boot.
Even as soon as I turn on the notebook, it is automatically transferred to the boot.
No key works.
Even other shortcuts:

  1. Volume + Power
  2. F2
  3. F4
  4. Does no Key Works
Every key I press does not work and unfortunately only goes to boot.
    I am tired!
I do not know what to do?
There is no special option in the boot!
After this crash, I imported Windows 8.1 with default iso and NTFC format in the notebook, but it did not work.
But when I changed the format to FAT, the notebook recognized Usb.
Even with knowing USB, Windows will not install and will be redirected to boot.
When I hit F10 and click on the arrow, I will be directed to the boot again.
    Please guide me.
I showed it to many friends who specialize in this field, but they could not help.
This notebook on loan and I have to change Windows And deliver it to its owner. Thanks All🙏

Hi, this reply is a bit late but I have just received a tablet like this, it is very complicated and there is no longer support for drivers and there is only one for Win 8.1 and they are only managed by Samsung and the update software does not work... well, to enter and configure through BIOS you must first disable the default key, then you must create the bootable USB with a Fat 32 GPT boot system, if it does not work I did it with RUFUS, you must get a 32-bit operating system or else the BIOS will not recognize it... I have not been able to get the drivers yet... from any... all the links are old and down...

Hola estimado, consulta tendrás algún link con los drivers para esta laptop? Resulta que un amigo me la trajo a mi para repararla pero no se donde buscar los drivers originales y funcionales. Saludos!

If anyone sees this in '25, I just installed Windows 10 32bit from USB. I did not install Win8 first.

  • The only way I could access the boot screen/BIOS was to use a USB hub and connect a mouse, keyboard and USB flash drive.
  • I used 'ISO to USB' to copy the ISO to the flash drive (at least 8GB).
  • Push the power button and when the 'Samsung' logo appears push the F10 key on the keyboard.
  • The connected USB drive, Windows Boot Manager and Enter Setup will appear.
  • Choose the USB option and the Win10 setup process will begin.
  • Note that it's likely only a USB 2.0 speed port (at least on mine) so it takes minutes before the setup screen shows up - not quick.
  • I found drivers on notebook-driver.com and searching for XE500T1C on the site.
  • I had to copy the drivers over via USB as the Wifi driver doesn't load automatically with Windows install.
  • There were a couple other devices still w/out drivers in Device Manager and found those by looking up the HW IDs and searching. -DriverIdentifer had them - w/out issue. No Malware issues.
  • Mine has a 60GB storage drive and after downloading the drivers and installing Chrome, I have ~40GB of free space.
  • I use a 32GB SD card for added storage.

Good luck!

hey everyone. just thought i would drop by just in case anyone is still using the good old miserably slow tablet in 2025.

i just wanted to let you all know i have archived the drivers for the Samsung tab ativ 500t and uploaded them to internet archive.

i also managed to get windows 10 22h2 installed on this old boy. i used windows 10 x-lite by fbconan.

however do not install the graphics driver from the drivers on internet archive that driver only works with windows 8 and early versions of windows 10. it blue screens on windows 10 22h2. you can either use windows update mini tool to get the driver or use snappy driver installer to get the gpu driver for windows 10. although it is bugged some of the ui is invisible i.e. the start menu doesn't show correctly. only use snappy driver installer to install the gpu driver only it will detect other drivers but one of them makes the tablet reboot every time it gets to the desktop.

i have a few videos showing how to get windows 10 22h2 installed over on YouTube just search for my channel The Tech Resurrectionist.

hope this helps. also has anyone got any other operating system to run on this tablet apparently the CPU supports x64 instruction sets but the uefi bios is locked to x86 only. and most Linux distros that i have tried just kernel panic. windows 7 also doesn't work.

i wonder if anyone out there could maybe have a look at the bios and see if it can be unlocked or reshow any hidden settings.

i am shocked that this tablet supports secure boot and TPM 2.0 too. just imagine having windows 11 on it lol
