This procedure is for installing, enabling and configuring Windows 11 for use with USB IrDA adapters and in particular the Irdroid USB IrDA adapter. Some installations of Windows 11, such as Windows 11 Enterprise 24H2 comes with the IrDA optional features not present, which means you can't enable IrDA on those systems, by using this method - Youtube Video. In such case, the method below can be used to install and configue IrDA.
- Request Administrator privileges for the computer (If you dont have admin rights)
- Type PowerShell into the Windows search bar, then select the Run as Administrator option.
- On the User Account Control pop-up window, click the Yes button.
- In the PowerShell window, check and see if the IrDA service is enabled with this command:
Get-WindowsCapability -Online -Name "Network.Irda~~~~0.0.1.0"..
- If the service is listed as NotPresent, it will need to be installed. You can install it using this command:
Add-WindowsCapability -Online -Name "Network.Irda~~~~0.0.1.0".

When the command starts, you will see a progress bar at the top of the window. Please note that the installation takes 1 hour or more to complete . Once the installation finishes, restart your computer.

Go to Control Panel and enter Infrared in the search box to configure the IrDA properties.
- Make sure to uncheck the following checkboxes, then click apply and ok:
- Insert the Irdroid IrDA Adapter into a free USB port of your PC, then open Device Manager
- If the Serial Driver is NOT automatically installed you will see following entry in the section "Ports (COM & LPT)" :
- In this case you need to install driver, by running the CH341SER.exe driver install utility from the Irdroid IrDA Adapter driver archive and install the driver.
- After the installation is completed you will see a new entry in "Ports (COM & LPT)" in Device Manager. Write down or remmember the COM port number , it will be needed in the next steps.
- Click on "Action" in Device Manager and then "Add Legacy Hardware". Select "Infrared Devices" from the list and then click "Next"
- Click "Have Disk" and then click "Browse" and navigate to the location where you have unarchived the Irdroid IrDA Driver. After that select "(Standard Infrared Port)" in the "Manufacturer" window and "Serial Cable using IrDA Protocol" in the Model window
- Click "Next"
- Select the COM port number, identified in step 12 above. and then click "Next"
- Installation is now completed. Click "Finish"
