Setup HashiCorp Vault on docker

Setup HashiCorp Vault on docker

Vault secures, stores, and tightly controls access to tokens, passwords, certificates, API keys, and other secrets in modern computing. Vault is primarily used in production environments to manage secrets. Vault is a complex system that has many different pieces. There is a clear separation of components that are inside or outside of the security barrier. Only the storage backend and the HTTP API are outside, all other components are inside the barrier.

The storage backend is untrusted and is used to durably store encrypted data. When the Vault server is started, it must be provided with a storage backend so that data is available across restarts. The HTTP API similarly must be started by the Vault server on start so that clients can interact with it.

Tweaks I've made to my Arch Linux installation

Arch Linux tweaks

This is a collection of the tweaks and modification I've made to my Arch Linux installation over the months. These may be applicable to other distros, but please check first before doing anything. I also included Arch Wiki references for all the procedures I mentioned. My recommendation is not to blindly follow this gist but to always check with the Arch Linux wiki first. Things move fast and by the time you're reading this my gist may be out of date. Lastly, the golden rule: never execute a command you don't understand.

Installing the KDE Plasma desktop

My current DE of choice is KDE's Plasma. I find it just about perfect.

There are various ways to install it on Arch. The most popular one is to install plasma and plasma-applications, but I don't like doing that because it comes with too many programs I'll never use. I, instead, install the base plasma group, remove the few extra packages that come with it, then I finish off by installing a few KDE apps that don't come with th

SQLAlchemy is a deep and powerful thing made up of many layers. This cheat sheet sticks to parts of the ORM (Object Relational Mapper) layer, and aims to be a reference not a tutorial. That said, if you are familiar with SQL then this cheat sheet should get you well on your way to understanding SQLAlchemy. #sqlalchemy

Tutorial for installing a 64-bit Arch Linux ARM system on the Raspberry Pi 3B+, with an encrypted root filesystem, and the option to remotely unlock it via a pre-boot SSH daemon.

Arch Linux ARM 64 on Raspberry Pi 3 B+ With Full Disk Encryption And SSH Unlock: 2018 Edition

There are multiple ways to get a full disk encrypted arch linux system on raspberry. In this tutorial, we will install a 64-bit arch linux armv8 system, using dropbear as ssh server for remote pre-boot unlocking of the root filesystem. However, it will still be possible to unlock and use the pi as usual, with a keyboard and monitor. We will also create an unencrypted partition in the installation process, usable as a rescue system.

Differences to the 32-bit arch linux arm version:

  • probably better performance
  • can run 64-bit software
  • comes without the proprietary video-driver blobs
