This is an awesome list or resources on sashiko, kantha, visible mending and other related techniques.
- basic concepts of Japanese aesthetics in Ukrainian
- Boro 🇯🇵
The closest “relative.” It’s the layering and stitching of patches with characteristic repeating stitches. Visually, it looks rougher and more “boho” compared to the neatness of classic sashiko. - Kantha 🇧🇩 🇮🇳
Similar in idea and aesthetics. The fabric is stitched with very small parallel running stitches, creating a soft, slightly crinkled texture - something between quilting and sashiko. Often used in repair work or to make new blankets and throws from old saris. - Jogakbo 🇰🇷 🇰🇵
Not exactly mending, but related in principle - assembling pieces of fabric into a new, semi-transparent textile. It offers a lot of inspiration for repairs through its refined, graphic patchwork.
