Charcoal Bedroom Project – FINAL Plan (#222222 range)

1. Color target

  • Target wall color: very dark charcoal gray, close to HEX #222222 (soft black/charcoal, not pure black).

Practical Glidden color to reference

Tell them to aim between:

  • Glidden Elegant Charcoal – 00NN 20/000 (dark cool gray) glidden
  • Slightly darker than Elegant Charcoal, but not full Black Magic (which is basically black). walmart

3. Note to Walmart associate (show this; you don’t need to speak)

You can copy/paste and print this, or show it on your phone:

Hello, I am unable to speak, so I am showing you these instructions.

1. Primer (walls):

  • I need three (3) 1‑gallon cans of ZINSSER COVER STAIN oil‑based primer, white, interior/exterior.
  • Please tint ALL THREE cans to a MEDIUM GRAY. This is to cover very bright green and bright pink walls before a dark charcoal color.

2. Wall paint (dark charcoal, HEX #222222 range):

  • I need three (3) 1‑gallon cans of FLAT interior paint – either:
Glidden FUNDAMENTALS Interior FLAT, tintable base, or
Dutch Boy Interior FLAT, tintable base (whichever you recommend and have in stock).
  • Please tint ALL THREE cans to a VERY DARK CHARCOAL GRAY.
  • Color target: about HEX #222222 (soft black/charcoal).
  • I want it darker than “Elegant Charcoal 00NN 20/000” but NOT as dark as your full black (for example “Black Magic”).
  • Finish: FLAT, not eggshell or gloss.

3. Trim paint (bright white):

  • I also need one (1) gallon of interior SEMI‑GLOSS WHITE paint for trim and doors (bright white). Any Glidden, Dutch Boy, or KILZ interior semi‑gloss white is fine.

4. Returns (unopened cans):

  • All of these items are sold by Walmart, not Marketplace.
  • If any cans stay UNOPENED, can I return them within 90 days under Walmart’s standard return policy?
  • If tinted paint is treated differently, please let me know by writing “OK to return unopened” or “No returns on tinted paint” on my receipt or this paper.

Thank you for your help.

This keeps everything in writing and also explicitly asks about returning unopened tinted cans (which is allowed at many Walmart stores but can vary; the associate/manager can clarify on the spot). walmart

4. Project plan with timing (unchanged in structure, updated color notes)

Day 0 – Quick prep

  • Move furniture, cover with drop cloths.
  • Remove switch/outlet covers.
  • Inspect walls/trim.

Day 1 – Prep + Primer (2 coats)

  • Sand glossy spots and repairs; spackle, sand smooth.
  • Clean and tape.
  • Primer coat 1: gray‑tinted Cover Stain (Can #1).
  • Dry 1–2 hours.
  • Primer coat 2: gray‑tinted Cover Stain (Can #2).
  • Dry overnight.

(Keep Can #3 unopened if you can.)

Day 2 – Charcoal walls (HEX ≈ #222222)

  • Color coat 1: dark charcoal mix (Can #1), cut in then roll.
  • Dry 2–4 hours.
  • Color coat 2: dark charcoal mix (Can #2), even coverage.
  • Remove painter’s tape while paint is slightly tacky.

(Use Can #3 only if needed for full coverage or later touch‑ups.)

Day 3 – Bright white trim

  • Lightly sand existing white trim; wipe clean.
  • Caulk gaps; let skin over.
  • Trim coat 1: semi‑gloss white on trim/doors.
  • Dry per label.
  • Trim coat 2 where needed.
  • Pull tape while slightly tacky.

Day 4 – Cleanup & returns

  • Reinstall covers; move furniture back.
  • Label any partly used cans (room + color + date).
  • Return unopened cans with your receipt according to what the store confirmed.

If you’d like, next I can shrink this into a “travel-size” version that fits on a single printed page (no explanations, just bullets and the exact text for the associate).
