Two approaches were used:
- GDPR Subprocessor Pages — Searching for companies legally required to disclose Temporal Technologies as a data processor. Highest-confidence signal of paid Temporal Cloud usage.
- Website & Public Source Scraping — Temporal's customer pages, case studies, press releases, conference speaker lists, and engineering blogs.
Note on approach: The research-competitors skill (a standalone Node.js tool using Serper.dev + Anthropic APIs) was not used for this report. It's currently configured for PubNub, Pusher, Liveblocks, and GetStream only. Instead, the skill's methodology was replicated manually using web search and page scraping. See Recommendations at the end for how to extend the skill to support Temporal and other arbitrary competitors.

The research-competitors skill (skills/competitor-intel/) currently only supports PubNub, Pusher, Liveblocks, and GetStream. To make it work for Temporal and other arbitrary competitors:
The current design hard-codes competitor names and domains in getCompetitorDomain(). This should accept any competitor as input without code changes.
The skill's subprocessor search works well for tools that process end-user PII (like Pusher/PubNub). For infrastructure tools like Temporal, the search queries need to be broader:

The enrichment step already uses Claude for ICP scoring. The Ably-specific criteria should be a configurable prompt template so different teams can score against different criteria.
