| Broken: | |
| Sidebar: | |
| - Nate McD, Matt Joyce, PinkClouds, WarrenAbox; the small icon to the left of the artists name is broken; can you confirm if this is broken for you? | |
| Suggestions: | |
| - combo boxes could use tool tips to explain their functionality further. | |
| - not immediately obvious; had to experiment to figure it out. Expected standard "mouse mode" controls, where clicking "rotate" will allow you to rotate any tile you clicked on. | |
| Map Type: | |
| - "Dungeons" looks like a header, especially when you expand the combo box, making it appear less like an item in the combo box. Considering giving this an actual header? | |
| map size | |
| - map sizing seems to rebuild the map entirely, which can be discouraging if the user spent a bit of time building a map, only to find it needs to be bigger. Perhaps either find a way to preserve the current map when you resize, or bring up an alert box that changing the map size will destroy the current map. | |
| - entering in invalid input in the text boxes for width and rows highlights the textboxes red, yet still tries to do it anyways, or to the best of it's ability; entering in 100+ for a width will still make the map huge; perhaps have a tool tip come up stating what's wrong. Also perhaps add the dimension of the map somewhere on the screen. | |
| - map size; what is the unit? Feet? Tiles? I'm not entirely sure. | |
| - should be columns and rows, not width and rows. | |
| swapping a tile | |
| - standard animation, probably what i would have used. | |
| - dragging and dropping tiles to swap discovered by accident;consider adding animation or sound cue to polish this feature, and maybe a cue (probably audio) to show a failed swap. | |
| - it can be frustrating if you want to swap tiles that don't work; either nothing happens, or they swap and automatically rotate. Perhaps allow it to swap, but show in some way that it is invalid; highlight the tiles red perhaps. perhaps create toasts or some other notification that gives suggestions on how to fix it; clicking on links in the notifications would implement the fix. | |
| - swapping also seems to rotate tiles. It looks like the end result is the same orientation the tiles were in before. Is the rotation necessary? I could consider it slightly confusing and distracting. Consider no transition to the rotated end result if there is no need to rotate. | |
| Changing the tile | |
| - it's somewhat clunky to have to click on the tile, then click on the button repeatedly to get the new tile that you want; i would suggest a tile selector bar on the bottom or right hand side of the screen that is either omnipresent, or would pop up when necessary, that would allow users to select a new, valid tile. | |
| rotating a tile | |
| - rotations for 180 degrees or more is too fast to see; can make it hard to figure out exactly what happened; did it rotate 180 degrees or 270? | |
| - If every angle is eligible for rotation, if you rotate a tile 3 times, on the fourth it will reverse direction and spin backwards instead of simply spinning 90 degrees. I personally found it a bit disorienting. Is this expected? | |
| - no feedback for failed to rotate; feedback would be nice; either a sound, or visual cue | |
| build a map by this artist: | |
| - not immediately obvious where the focus is for this button. Is it concentrated on the artist name in the left sidebar? Only with experimentation did it show that it uses the tile that is currently selected. I would consider having this as a modal window; click this button, select an artist (along with an example of their art) | |
| Sidebar: | |
| - What do the letters mean? E, EC, C, it means nothing to me. Perhaps have a tool tip when they hover over the letters to explain what they mean. | |
| - deselecting all the artists seems to work like selecting all; is this expected behavior? Perhaps a message that pops up stating that an artist must be selected, or perhaps remove the map entirely? | |
| Stocker: | |
| - I'm not sure exactly what this is. It doesn't seem to modify the map; it looks like it simply generates 5 bullet points with random objects; monsters, traps, empty etc. Perhaps flesh this feature out more? Clicking on the bullet point could say, bring up a modal window that has more details on the contents, if it's part of the random generation. | |
| Help: | |
| - Help looks nice. | |
| - Doesn't explain how the map modification system works (select a tile, then press buttons to perform transformations.) Should explain how this works, as it may not be immediately obvious for those expecting "photoshop" like controls. | |
| - Opens in the same window; should open in a new tab. Also if you change the window, you should bring up an alert box first in case the user doesn't want to lose their work. | |
| Notification Bar: | |
| - The OK button looks odd as a link; perhaps replace it with a button, or a button to the far right with cancel (x) in it; would be more obvious on how to close it and more consistent. |
