Renaming file

There is a bug in Windows that sometimes leads to program freezing when OC asks Windows to rename a file or folder
Several workarounds have been implemented but since I can't reproduce this issue it is not certain which one will fix the problem
To apply workaround open: Settings>Advanced and in Experimental section you will see
Rename freezing workaround section

DON'T check "Rename files through Explorer dialogs" as that one has issue with paths longer than 240 characters and suffers from famous "Renaming..." that sometimes takes 10 seconds in Explorer

The default is "0", you can try "1" and "2" which give Windows 2 seconds and then will abort the operation (better than freezing program indefinitely) and then it will try renaming through Explorer

The program crashes when I try to change the name of a folder. Not always, but it is happening to me very often.

The same thing happens to me, to the point that it is basically unusable. It's very sad because I like it a lot, but basically I'm forced to rename the folders and files in file explorer, and I end up doing everything there.

I tried all the recommendations in the help without any improvement.

Mine froze and crashed while I was dragging left the left vertical bar (to shorten the width of that left sidebar). Didn't do it the second time though, just the first time.

It freezed when I use LoselessCut and renamed a file I may still using( I closed the project but the app is still open). A rough guess is the app still accquiring the file using some strange method, that OC can not detect. It might be a easier case to reproduce, I encountered twice in similar process.

I had the renaming freeze problem in following circumstances.
I had a folder with open PowerPoint file. Then I tried to rename the folder without closing that file, and OneCommander froze.
With workaround 1, renaming simply fails, and OneCommander doesn't freeze, which is good.
Later I tested that on different folders (tried to rename a folder when a file inside it was open), for some folders renaming works, for some it doesn't. So I haven't found a conclusive way to reproduce the problem

Exactly the same problem, OneCommander dies when I try to rename a file, maddeningly annoying

The intermittent crashing on resizing in windows has been happening for a couple of years for me. I assume it's related to my multimonitor setup with different resolution and/or (more likely) due to Window's monitor scaling setting; as i have the 4k monitor at 175% and the 3440x1440 at 125%.

Restarting after the crash (always?) has One Commander ballooned in size. It also tends to not happen for months, but once it starts crashing it'll crash 50% of the time i resize it.

I bet it's the windows scaling factor...

Changing these settings in the Compatibility menu seems to have fixed it. I'll report back in a day or two, but looks positive. it would have crashed 50x times during the resizing frenzy i just subjected it to!

reporting back. no crashes since i made the windows scaling compatibility changes. Although fonts aren't as pretty.

Freezing when renaming has been resolved in recent versions of OC

In the two-pane mode of the OC software (version 3.103), when I dragged the divider in the middle to adjust the size of the windows on both sides, the program froze and crashed during the dragging process. Eventually, I had to kill the program and restart it.

2025-12-03: After updating to version 3.104, this issue persists.
