On January 3rd, at like 4am or some bullshit like that (I woke up to pee, and stayed up doom scrolling the news about it), the US military descended on the capital of Caracas, killed the security detail of the president Nicolas Maduro, kidnapped him and his wife. A few days later, documents emerged that he would be charged in US ccourts, reported in places like https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/here-are-the-charges-against-nicolás-maduro-after-us-capture/ar-AA1TvYtc. A lot of talk has gone on around this - Around the same time, the POTUS has posted a fake screenshot of a wikipedia article calling himself the acting president of Venezuela https://time.com/7345445/trump-venezuela-acting-president-wikipedia-truth-social/. Prior to the invasion, the US had seized a Venezuelan oil tanker https://www.cnn.com/2025/12/10/politics/oil-tanker-seized-venezuela, and more recently a second one https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/12/20/us-seizes-second-oil-vessel-off-venezuela-coast-officials-say. Reporting has emerged that Exxonmobil and Chevron, possibly others were briefed on the attacks before Congress or the american people were. https://abcnews.go.com/Business/trump-spoke-oil-companies-venezuela-attack-brief-lawmakers/story?id=128942212.
