Thank you for writing these notes!
I made some updates so that the HTML export works on the current version on https://jupyterlite.readthedocs.io (version 0.7.0). I was also able to remove any changes to source files or copying of templates.
Hopefully that will make it easier to implement it as a new custom JupyterLite exporter addon, but don't know how to create one.

I'm not sure how I should share these updates with you. Should I post them here as a comment? (I'm not very familiar with Gist and don't know if you have any license on the above notes which I should take into account if I post such a comment here.)
