Tell Me About Yourself

Keep it succinct, honest, and engaging. This is not meant to be detailed. Provide direct evidence that you are qualified for the role and that you can handle an unstructured question. Tie it in to the job description; provide evidence that you have the experience to do the job. Describe yourself as a person with the strengths that they are seeking. What success milestones set you on this track?

Greatest Strength

Don't sound arrogant. Keep it humble. What are you good at? What professional experience does that tie into? Where did you use this strength to be particularly successful? Tie it back into what they are looking for in a candidate.

Greatest Weakness

Do not list something that rules you out of candidacy. Instead, list something you are working on and have an action plan to fix it. For example, I have trouble keeping up with all the meeting details; big or small. As a result, I am a fastidious note taker. I will text myself, write it down, Slack myself, or always have a file open for quick note taking for later review.

Why hire you?

Why do you qualify for this job? Where do your strengths match the job description? Pick three or four qualifications that make you the ideal candidate. Share a success story that exemplifies why you will own the role. Demonstrate why you are a great fit for the position.

Why do you want to work here?

This one can be tough if you are becoming desperate in your job search, but chances are you are applying to a role that you are qualified for. If you like the business or the product, you can talk about contributing to that success because you are genuinely interested in it. If the stack speaks to you, talk about how you want to grow and become a master craftsman. The stack, or seniority, may enable you to achieve that success. Perhaps you feel like it's a progressive team that is equally interested in lifelong learning and evolving the field.
