Speed up your Mouse/Trackpad on OSX

For those who want to use the Magic Mouse as a high end gaming mouse for the daily dev routine lol.

Get your current tracking speed

defaults read -g com.apple.mouse.scaling

Set new tracking speed

defaults write -g com.apple.mouse.scaling new_speed

Keep in mind

  • Change mouse for trackpad to get/set the trackpad speed
  • OSX System preferences max speed is 3.0, use values bigger than 10.0 to feel the boost
  • Restart for the changes to take effect
