Plex Media Permissions for Linux Noobies

Plex Media Permissions for Linux Noobies

There is no problem with being a noobie and I do not use the term to sligtht or disparage anyone.

This is a way to setup your permissions for running Plex in Linux. Different folks may use different methods.

The permissions concepts provided here apply to OSX, but the users and groups are controlled and modified differently, so much of this will not work properly. I think the command is dscl, but that could be out of date.

There are many ways to setup your permissions scheme in Linux, this methodology describes a way to do it, not everyone will like it, but it works for me, so whatever.

Removing featured videos on FANDOM

Hiding the videos

Hiding with uBlock Origin

uBlock Origin, unlike AdBlock Plus and other alternatives, doesn't allow companies to pay to whitelist their ads, and it blocks trackers too. Using it will provide the best experience on Wikia, as the majority of ads and slowdowns will be eliminated.

To block videos using uBlock Origin:

  • Click the uBlock Origin icon in your browser
  • Then click 'Open dashboard' (the furthest icon on the right under the power icon)
  • Click 3rd party filters
  • Click the Update now button and then enable uBlock filters - Annoyances

Simple Github -> Discord webhook

Step 1 - Make a Discord Webhook

  1. Find the Discord channel in which you would like to send commits and other updates

  2. In the settings for that channel, find the Webhooks option and create a new webhook. Note: Do NOT give this URL out to the public. Anyone or service can post messages to this channel, without even needing to be in the server. Keep it safe! WebhookDiscord

Step 2 - Set up the webhook on Github

  1. Navigate to your repository on Github, and open the Settings Settings

What are CPU "C-states" and how to disable them if needed?

To limit a CPU to a certain C-state, you can pass the processor.max_cstate=X option in the kernel line of /boot/grub/grub.conf.

Here we limit the system to only C-State 1:

    kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-371.1.2.el5 ... processor.max_cstate=1

On some systems, the kernel can override the BIOS setting, and the parameter intel_idle.max_cstate=0 may be required to ensure sleep states are not entered:
