Love Jam 2024

Theme: Interface

Core Mechanics

Limb Removal and Grafting

  • Players can freely remove and attach limbs to themselves or their partner. Different limbs offer unique abilities:
    • Legs: Standard movement speed, jumping, climbing.
    • Arms: Grabbing objects, manipulating switches, throwing limbs.
    • Heads: Special abilities. (?)

Limb throwing

  • Players can detach and throw limbs to activate switches, reach platforms, or trip obstacles.

Puzzle Design

  • Encourage clever utilization of the limited limb set, requiring strategic limb swapping and throwing to solve. Think conveyor belts, pressure plates, puzzles requiring specific combinations of limbs.

Visual Style

  • Cartoonish and Fun: Avoid gore, go for a lighthearted, humorous style inspired by Potato Head toys.
  • Expressive Characters: Use exaggerated animations and character designs to highlight limb actions and emotions.
  • Limb Variety: Design diverse limbs with unique shapes, textures, and colors to add visual interest and emphasize their roles.

Additional Ideas

Environmental Hazards

  • Hazards like fire, water, or electricity that require specific limbs to navigate safely.
    • This could include graphically different limbs. E.g. Limb with fish scales can move faster in water

Asymmetrical Play

  • Where each player has unique starting limbs and abilities, encouraging deeper cooperation.

Limb Combination

  • Allow players to combine different limbs to create temporary, hybrid forms with unique abilities. Imagine a leg-arm combo for increased jumping and grabbing reach.

Hidden Limbs

  • Hidden limbs throughout the environment, each with unique abilities and lore attached, rewarding exploration and discovery.
