Subject: Reading and Preparation for Instructor Training on Wednesday
Hi Everyone!
I am looking forward to introducing you to The Carpentries Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
Some homework before you arrive:
1) Fill out the online application form https://amy.software-carpentry.org/forms/request_training/ so that there isn't a mad rush in the middle of day two to fill it out. You're not "requesting training" but more adding yourselves to the system, so that the instructor checkout process can start. Your registration code is: 2019-07-18-ttt-macquarie since we're not using eventbrite to invite you all.
2) Make sure you register for github if you have not already.
Please read the following before the workshop begins:
The Science of Learning
Please also read through one episode of one of The Carpentries lessons below carefully, so that you can do some exercises based on it on the first and days of the class. An episode is one page of a lesson.
Software Carpentry Lessons
Data Carpentry Lessons
Library Carpentry Lessons
I know many of you will be participating in workshops next week, so I strongly recommend to all to choose an episode from https://mq-software-carpentry.github.io/R-2019-07-25-macquarie/ or https://mq-software-carpentry.github.io/2019-07-24-intro-to-python/ Just make sure that the episode has some coding in it.
3) Don't forget to bring your laptops with you. Trying to participate on the etherpad on a tablet is an unfortunate experience.
4) Finally, as I'm sure other folk have emailed you about, we have various surveys by various organisations. Please take https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/instructor_training_pre_survey?workshop_id=2019-07-18-ttt-macquarie so that The Carpentries can track instructor training experiences.
Let me know what questions you have.
Cheers,
-Brian
